Being a foster based rescue, we are only able to continue the work we do with the help of our amazing foster volunteers. It is because of them that we are able to rescue so many animals and find them the forever homes that they so greatly deserve.
Fostering is extremely rewarding, as you are the person who is teaching these animals that life isn't as scary as it once was. You are the person getting them used to living in a home, which is something that not all our animals have experienced. You are the person teaching them to play with toys, go up the stairs, play with other animals, cuddle up in a humans lap for possibly the first time, and explore a world that they have never known. Most importantly, you are preparing them for the full and happy life that they will live once they are adopted.
Seeing the developments that animals make in a foster home proves that a little love and attention can make all the difference in these animals lives and we try to make it as easy for you as possible. If you foster with GBC Rescue, you are provided with everything needed to care for your foster animal. We are also available for communication around the clock so you will always have the support of our team.
We are always looking for new fosters, because more foster homes mean more placements for homeless animals.
Here is some frequently asked questions about fostering with Good Boy Club Rescue:
1. What are the responsibilities of a foster?
The main responsibilities of a foster parent is to provide housing and basic care for a cat/kitten (includes feeding, cleaning litter, monitoring for health issues, and providing a safe, loving environment). We ask that you provide us updates on their health and overall behaviour, as well as sending us photos or videos to help in their adoption process.
2. How long does a cat stay in foster?
The time commitment varies per cat as some get adopted quicker than others but we ask a minimum of 2 weeks since they need time to adjust in a new home. Some cats stay in foster up to 6 months while they wait to be adopted, but it is always the foster parents choice how long they can foster for. If the cat you are fostering doesn’t get adopted within the time frame you prefer, with notice, we will have another placement ready.
3. Will I have guidance while fostering?
We will absolutely support and guide you the whole way! We will provide you with specific instructions on how to properly care for your foster cat and will be available to you 24 hours a day if you have questions or need help with anything.
4. What are the requirements?
The requirements are that you must be 18 years of age or older, or have a parent consent to ensure the proper care. We would prefer you have a drivers license or access to a vehicle in case of an emergency and the animal needs to be transported immediately to a vet. But for regular vet trips we will be providing pick up and transportation.
5. How are fosters matched with their cat?
We match fosters with cats based off of their application, which helps us to see what you are looking for and able to foster. Some cats are very timid and need help socializing so we would prefer a quiet home, whereas kittens and outgoing cats do well in most homes. Some cats don’t do well with other animals so we will also screen based on that. But we will tell you which animals we have in need of foster and you can decide if you would like to foster them or not.
6. Does it cost anything to foster?
No, we provide all supplies and expenses. We will provide you with food, litter, bedding, bowls, toys, and anything needed. We will arrange their veterinary appointments and cover all fees. If the animal needs an emergency vet appointment we will also cover those costs.
7. Can fosters adopt their cat?
Yes, we always give the foster parent the opportunity to adopt and are prioritized before other applications.
